All You Need is Fudge: Candy-Coated #4-Nancy Coco

All You Need is Fudge (Candy-Coated, #4)

Fudge shop owner Allie McMurphy is making fudgie treats for the annual yacht race--but a killer's stirring up a batch of trouble. . .

Sailing Into Murder

The annual yacht race off the coast of Mackinac Island, Michigan, is a highlight of the summer season, and Allie is pulling out all the stops making chocolate centerpieces for the occasion. Unfortunately, she and her bichonpoo, Mal, also pull a dead body from the murky waters of the marina. When Allie's boyfriend's sister becomes the prime suspect, Allie dives into investigating the murder herself. Amid bitter feuds and hushed-up scandals, the courageous candymaker quickly gets in over her head. Someone is trying to fudge the facts to keep a secret worth killing for. . .

My Take:

As always, this author transports me to my love of all things Mackinaw Island. Allie works hard to uncover another killer on the small island community and once again I am fooled by the ending. I love this series and hope that it's around for a very long time to come.

Blade of The Broken: The Runeblade Trilogy #1 by Featured Author Jake Scholl

The Sorcerer King, Warrick Volung, killed thousands of innocent men and elves with his sorcery, and the powerful Runeblade, forged by the God of Light Tuireann himself... When it was created, the blade was a weapon of good. But it was warped by Warrick’s evil soul, and his worship of his God: the Arch-Demon Morak.

The people of the lands, the last of the Elves, the Mages & Paladins of Seran Drakis, and the Rangers Guild united to stop the King. They defeated his army, and took the Runeblade, and broke it in two. Warrick was forced to retreat to his homeland, and has hid there ever since.

Now Kronea is relatively peaceful. Even with peace, there are still monsters in the shadows: human and humanoid alike. To keep order, the Rangers Guild seek them out, and deal with them accordingly.

Stefan Rickardson is one of the best Rangers. He always gets the mission done, no matter the cost. When he's sent on a quest to stop yet another person, he thinks it's the same as every other mission... But the further he goes on the hunt, the more Stefan starts to question his orders. Especially when the person he's after isn't evil.

Meanwhile, a greater evil is stirring up again, and will push Stefan to his emotional and psychological limits... And it will break him, and everyone around him.

Wills will be tested… And blood will be spilled.

Javier gave this book 5 stars stating:

It has been some time since I've read a fantasy fiction novel (or any novel), which is a shame, because I thoroughly enjoy reading a great book. Blade of the Broken was a nice welcome back to the fantasy genre, and a kick in the butt to find more time in my life for reading.

The magical properties of the shattered blade that is the focal point of the story bring together four very different characters who all bear troubled pasts. Their struggle for the mysterious weapon takes the reader on a journey through lands ravaged by murderous sorcerers and a city ruled by thieves. The story is worth reading, and ends on a cliff-hanger that suggests more is to come.

This book is the first by self-published author Jake Scholl, and he has a knack for storytelling. Even if you are not a fan of the sci-fi-/fantasy genre, I would recommend purchasing this book to see what it is all about. You will not be disappointed.
